Brocade Enterprise & Entry SAN Switch Modules for IBM eServer BladeCenter. Firmware Update 5.0.1b v5.0.1b_readme.txt Version 1.00 11/10/05 ________ CONTENTS ________ 1.0 Overview 2.0 Change History 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions 4.0 Configuration Information 5.0 Known Issues 6.0 Unattended Mode 7.0 Web Sites and Support Phone Number 8.0 Trademarks and Notices 9.0 Disclaimer _______________ 1.0 Overview: _______________ This README describes the current firmware version for the Brocade Entry/Enterprise SAN Switch Modules for IBM eServer BladeCenter and procedure for updating firmware on the switch. IMPORTANT: The BladeCenter Management Module must have firmware version BRET59E (or greater) to operate properly with the BladeCenter Fibre Channel switch module. This firmware version is contained in the Management Module FW update package 1.11 found on the IBM Support website. Refer to BladeCenter documentation located on the BladeCenter Documentation CD provided with each switch module for procedure to verify/update Management Module firmware. ____________________ 2.0 Change History ____________________ 11/10/05 -- Changes from 4.4.1b to 5.0.1b *Critical Update* Fix: When a disk drive on a loop is replaced, the Nameserver still shows the WWN of the old drive. Fix: Switch does not pass traffic in interop mode with Windows host when a zone change is performed without switch reboot Fix: Switch panic on FOS4.4.x with zoned assert on invalid interface identifier. 8/3/05 -- Changes from 4.4.1a to 4.4.1b Fix: With the switch in interopmode, new devices added to the zone are not seen by the host until the switch is rebooted. Fix: Switch panic on 4.4.x with zoned assert on invalid interface identifier Fix: Disabling an active zone via cfgDisable disrupts Fiber Channel IO. This only happens when cfgDisable is performed 3/15/05 -- Changes from 4.4.0 to 4.4.1a Fix: Software Watchdog would cause switch reboot after 49 days (Critical Update) Fix: Using cfgEnable to enable a new zoning configuration that exceeds the CAM limit on a port group will cause traffic to be dropped. Fix: Upgrading to FOS v4.4.x will result in a temporary Name Server/Zoning Service incompatibility. In large fabrics, this can also cause traffic to stop. Fix: A single corrupted idle sent by a storage device despite subsequent good idles will cause the switch to take the port offline by sending a not operational primitive sequence (NOS). Feature: When Switch is inserted into a BladeCenter T chassis, ports 9-14 are persistantly disabled. These ports are unused on a BladeCenter T Chassis. 2/02/05 -- Changes from 4.2.1a to 4.4.0 -FDMI host name support -New supportSave command -RADIUS support -Multiple user accounts -SSL/HTTPS Support -SNMPv3 support -DH-CHAP authentication (switch-switch) -Support for higher distance links with Brocade Extended Fabrics License -Refer to Brocade FabOS 4.4.0 Release Notes for Additional Changes 8/24/04 -- Changes from 4.2.1 to 4.2.1a Refer to Brocade FabOS 4.2.1a Release Notes for Changes 4.2.1 5/18/04 Initial Release _________________________________________ 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions _________________________________________ 1.) Untar or unzip code package to an FTP Server 2.) Log into the Brocade SAN Switch Module as USERID and PASSW0RD (zero not a O) 3.) Once at a prompt run the command "firmwaredownload" 4.) You will be asked if you want to continue -- press "y" 5.) Enter the IP Address of the FTP Server 6.) Enter the account name for the FTP Server 7.) Enter the path and filename "{PATH}/release.plist" where {PATH} is the path to the top level directory structure for the new firmware. 8.) Enter the password for the FTP Server account 9>) The switch will download and install the code. A reboot will occur automatically when the code is finished installing. Additional detailed instructions for firmware installation of the Brocade Enterprise & Entry SAN Switch Module for IBM eServer BladeCenter can be found in Chapter 4 of the Fabric OS Procedures Guide version 4.2 or higher on the BladeCenter Documentation CD provided with each switch module. _______________________________ 4.0 Configuration Information _______________________________ Detailed information on configuring the Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch Module for IBM eServer BladeCenter can be found in the Brocade documentations on the BladeCenter Documentation CD provided with each switch module. Additional information is available in the Brocade 5.0.1b Firmware Release Notes. _____________________ 5.0 Known Issues _____________________ - When using the command "interopmode 1" ensure that you immediately reboot the switch after changing the interoperability mode. Failure to do so will allow a Domain ID outside of the permitted 97-127 range for interoperability. A domain ID higher then 127 in interoperability mode will prevent the switch from completing POST. If this occurs, use the reset to config defaults option in the BladeCenter Management Module to recover the switch. _____________________ 6.0 Unattended Mode _____________________ 6.1 This update package does not support Unattended Mode ________________________________________ 7.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number ________________________________________ 7.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/support 7.2 IBM Marketing Netfinity Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/netfinity 7.3 If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: 1-800-772-2227 http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/YAST-3P2QYL.html. ____________________________ 8.0 Trademarks and Notices ____________________________ 8.1 The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM BladeCenter eServer Microsoft, Windows, and Windows NT are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States, other countries, or both.
