README.TXT is provided in addition to: README.CID README.INS on this altered diskette of OS/2 Warp 3.0 for CD. OS/2 Warp 3.0 for CD will require a modified Installation Diskette and a modified Diskette 1. The Installation and Diskette 1 provided with OS/2 Warp 3.0 cannot read the partition table of your Thinkpad Hard Disk Drive. This impacts: Opt PN Description 00K7902 Thinkpad 765/760 5.1GB IDE Hard Disk Drive 02K0506 Thinkpad 380/386 5.1GB IDE Hard Disk Drive 11J8947 Thinkpad 770 5.1GB IDE Hard Disk Drive Problem: When attempting to partition the Thinkpad 5.1GB Hard Disk Drive, the partition information will be displayed incorrectly. For example, the partition information displayed may indicate that a 35MB DOS partition has been created, or another larger and unformatted/non-DOS partition is available as freespace. You are not able to delete and partition the drive to its capacity. Solution for OS/2 Warp 3.0 on CD: 1) Ensure that your Thinkpad 380/385 or 765/760 system has the most recent BIOS. The system BIOS does not directly affect the drive's partition table, but will ensure that your system is able to utilize the new technology of the drive. a) Important Notice for Thinkpad 765/760 systems: Updates to System BIOS will be made available through the IBM PC Company File Repository at (919) 517-0001. To access the files from the Web: use http://www.pc.ibm.com. A direct link to the files is available by using http://www.us.pc.ibm.com/files.html. Prior to installing your 5.1GB HDD option, you must install the System Program Service (BIOS) Diskette included with the 5.1GB HDD. The required BIOS version must be dated 8/15/97 or later. More recent versions will be added to the IBM PC Company File Repository as they are made available. Check the level of the System BIOS currently used by your Thinkpad 760 or 765: 1. Turn off the computer, and remove any diskette from the diskette drive. 2. Press and hold F1, then turn on the computer. Hold F1 until the Easy-Setup menu appears. The BIOS is shown on the Easy Setup main screen. If the BIOS date is August 15, 1997 (8/15/97) or later, you DO NOT need to install the update to your BIOS. To install the System Program BIOS: * You need an AC Adapter and a charged battery pack. * If your computer is attached to a docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before before updating the system BIOS. * From the enclosed diskettes with your 5.1GB HDD, select the one matching your Thinkpad model. The BIOS will not install from the wrong diskette. You will get an error message. 1. Firmly connect the AC Adapter to the computer. 2. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 3. On the menu which appears, choose the first option, "Read this first." After you read the instructions, go back and choose the second option, "Update system program." Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MIGHT HAVE TO BE REPLACED. b) Important Notice for Thinkpad 380/385 systems: Updates to System BIOS will be made available through the IBM PC Company File Repository at (919) 517-0001. You will need to modify the attributes of IBM1S506.ADD using one of the following methods from an OS/2 prompt: a) COPY F:\OS2IMAGE\DEBUG\ATTRIB.EXE C:\OS2\BOOT COPY F:\0S2IMAGE\DEBUG\ATTRIB.EXE C:\OS2\INSTALL\BOOTDISK OR b) PATH=F:\OS2IMAGE\DEBUG\ where F: is the drive letter of your CD Rom Drive. 5) Insert Diskette 1 into the floppy diskette drive. You will need to change the attributes of IBM1S506.ADD in two directories, copy IBM1S506.ADD from Diskette 1 to C:\OS2\BOOT and C:\OS2\INSTALL\BOOTDISK, and then restore the attributes to IBM1S506.ADD. From an OS/2 prompt, complete the following: 1) CD C:\OS2\BOOT 2) ATTRIB -A -R -H IBMS506.ADD 3) COPY A:IBM1S506.ADD C:\OS2\BOOT 4) ATTRIB +A +R +H IBMS506.ADD 5) CD C:\OS2\INSTALL\BOOTDISK 6) ATTRIB -A -R -H IBMS506.ADD 7) COPY A:IBM1S506.ADD C:\OS2\INSTALL\BOOTDISK 8) ATTRIB +A +R +H IBMS506.ADD 6) Remove the diskette from the floppy diskette drive. Reboot the system and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of OS/2 Warp 3.0 from CD.
