Symptoms:
        PHCO_9879:
        1. csh prompts the error 'display_char(1): Invalid
           multibyte character' when -x option is enabled in
           multi-byte locales.
        2. csh outputs the char '\' when it is used to escape the
           character which follows it.

        PHCO_9387:
        1. csh adds the character '01' in the output when
           using :q modifier.

        PHCO_9198:
          csh core dumps when using :q on a string contains
          both single and double quotes.

        PHCO_8916:
        1. Ctrl-w does not erase the word correctly in 10.10.
        2. $<space> is expanded within double quotes.
        3. The size of PATH environment variable (1k) is not
           sufficient.
        4. The '\n' chracter does not interpreted as a newline
           within double quotes.

        PHCO_8447:
          Shell variable is expanded even with :q
          modifier.

        PHCO_8372:
          Missing space between 'if' and '(' in if-then
          statement causes incorrect control-flow in a script.

        PHCO_8072:
          The value set to the shell variables 'term', 'user'
          and 'home' does not assign to the environment
          variables  'TERM', 'USER' and 'HOME'.

          A newline in the sequence '\\n' is ignored if it's placed
          within double quotes.

        PHCO_7890:
          csh does not accept '\' to escape a newline within
          back quotes(`).

        PHCO_7550:
          Applying :r modifier on a variable whose value
          does not contain .suffix hangs.

        PHCO_7115:
        1.The set local variable with :r gives an error
          "invalid multibyte" if the argument is null.
        2. The non-printable characters in the prompt
           string was being converted to printable
           characters.  The color escape sequences for
           hpterm was not working in csh prompts.

        PHCO_6837:
        1. The delete character(\177) cannot be used in quoted
           strings.
        2. Here document with quoted or escaped string terminators
           gives "line buffer overflow" message.
        3. The "if" statement is not parsed correctly if the "<<"
           string appears in between the if and endif.
        4. Command line arguments length is limited in 10.10.
        5. Here documents with "\" at the end of line in the input
           produces junk characters in the output.
        6. Scripts that works in 10.01 gives "wordsize overflow"
           error.
        7. Quoted strings with command substitution prints junk
           characters.

Defect Description:
        PHCO_9879:
        1. csh -x on LANG=ja_JP.SJIS cannot echo command line
           with multibyte char.
        2. csh outputs \'value\' instead of 'value' in 10.10.

        PHCO_9387:
        1. csh :q inserts '01' in the output.

        PHCO_9198:
          10.10 csh dump core when using :q modifier.

        PHCO_8916:
        1. csh word erase fails in 10.10
        2. $ space is expanded improperly in hp-ux 10.10
        3. The size of PATH varibale is very less (1k).
        4. csh does not process escape characters in 10.x

        PHCO_8447:
          Modifier q: does not work as expected. It expands
          the shell variables.

        PHCO_8372:
          In 10.10, csh script break if 'if' is
          followed by '(' in if-then-else statement.

        PHCO_8072:
          In 10.10 term and home is no longer automatically
          imported to and exported from the corresponding
          environment variable TERM and HOME.

          The char '\' does not escape a newline character
          within double quotes.

        PHCO_7890:
          10.10 csh does not accept '\' to escape a
          newline if a '`' is unmatched.

        PHCO_7550:
          csh hangs when using :r qualifier;
          %set a = test ; echo $a:r loops for ever.

Installation Instructions:
        Please review all instructions and the Hewlett-Packard
        SupportLine User Guide or your Hewlett-Packard support terms
        and conditions for precautions, scope of license,
        restrictions, and, limitation of liability and warranties,
        before installing this patch.
        ------------------------------------------------------------
        1. Back up your system before installing a patch.

        2. Login as root.

        3. Copy the patch to the /tmp directory.

        4. Move to the /tmp directory and unshar the patch:

                cd /tmp
                sh PHCO_9879

        5a. For a standalone system, run swinstall to install the
            patch:

                swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true \
                        -s /tmp/PHCO_9879.depot

        5b. For a homogeneous NFS Diskless cluster run swcluster on the
            server to install the patch on the server and the clients:

                swcluster -i -b

            This will invoke swcluster in the interactive mode and
            force all clients to be shut down.

            WARNING: All cluster clients must be shut down prior to the
                     patch installation.  Installing the patch while the
                     clients are booted is unsupported and can lead to
                     serious problems.

            The swcluster command will invoke an swinstall session in which
            you must specify:

                alternate root path  -  default is /export/shared_root/OS_700
                source depot path    -  /tmp/PHCO_9879.depot

            To complete the installation, select the patch by choosing
            "Actions -> Match What Target Has" and then "Actions -> Install"
            from the Menubar.

        5c. For a heterogeneous NFS Diskless cluster:

                - run swinstall on the server as in step 5a to install
                  the patch on the cluster server.

                - run swcluster on the server as in step 5b to install
                  the patch on the cluster clients.

        By default swinstall will archive the original software in
        /var/adm/sw/patch/PHCO_9879.  If you do not wish to retain a
        copy of the original software, you can create an empty file
        named /var/adm/sw/patch/PATCH_NOSAVE.

        Warning: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the
                 patch cannot be deinstalled.  Please be careful
                 when using this feature.

        It is recommended that you move the PHCO_9879.text file to
        /var/adm/sw/patch for future reference.

        To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the
        tape drive, use the command:

                dd if=/tmp/PHCO_9879.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k
