The 9090 and 9060 were Commodore's only released hard drives for the
CBM/PET line of computers and IEEE-488 interface. This is a shame.
All the more because they
are so hard to find, and in such demand by PET users like myself.
These hard drives come in 5 and 7 megabyte varieties, and are fully accessible via the standard CBM DOS commands and Basic 4.0. Depending upon the size of the hard drive, these can take at least an hour or more to fully format. When formatted, the full drive space is available as a single humungous directory on drive 0. The lack of directory support in CBM DOS is painfully evident when dealing with such a monstrous amount of space (remember, a 32K machine does not require very large files).
At one point, I did manage to get one of the 9060 drives to also provide a drive 1, much like the other CBM dual drives. The drive 1 was merely a reflection of drive 0, but was important for use with my SuperPET, since the SuperPET assumes Unit 8, Drive 1 for its language disk. I have not been able to duplicate this feat since then, however, and have no idea how or why it happened to begin with.
