SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 3.1

SUPERSEDES: SP3759

DESCRIPTION: This SoftPaq unpacks the files required to install the
Windows 95 video driver for the above-mentioned Deskpro and ProLinea models.
Driver support is included for Compaq S3 V2/GX, ViRGE/GX, CL5434, CL5436,
CL5446, QVision 1024 I/E, and QVision 1280 I/E/P/P+ Graphics Controllers.
Optionally allows a driver diskette to be created.

This driver corrects the following issues with various graphics controllers:

CL5434
- Opening a DOS session with Direct Draw FoxBear Utility and a movie running
  causes lockup.

CL5436
- Opening a DOS window with ActiveMovie playing in 1024 8bpp resolution causes
  lockup.

CL5446
- Various FullScreen Direct Draw FoxBear modes flicker.

S3 V2GX
- Opening a DOS session with Direct Draw FoxBear Utility windowed and active
  freezes screen.
- Direct Draw MPG Hardware accelerated movies are corrupted in 640 8bpp resolution.
- Moving DOS loop over AVI movie causes temporary lines to appear on the Desktop.

S3 Virge/GX
- System does not wake up after E-Star kicks in with AVI and DOS loop running.
- Opening a DOS session with Direct Draw FoxBear Utility windowed and active
  freezes screen.
- Force-install of Debug files from DirectX 3.0a SDK unaccelerates Direct Draw.
- Waking system from S1/Standby corrupts FullScreen DOS loop.
- Vertical blue lines appear on 1152 16bpp 85Hz Desktop when an AVI is opened.
- Dragging an icon across a window border causes a brief ghost cursor to appear
  in 24bpp mode.

HOW TO USE:

1. Download the SoftPaq to a temporary, empty directory on your
hard drive. The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable
with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

2. From the download directory, execute the SoftPaq. When executed
with no parameters, files are extracted into the current directory.
To extract the files into a different directory, specify the complete
path of the directory as a parameter:

     SPxxxx <path>

Enter "Y" to confirm and files are unpacked into the download
directory or the directory specified.

3. After the files have been created, you may delete the
self-extracting file downloaded in step 1.

4. The driver may be installed directly from the files on the download
directory or a driver diskette can be created. To create a driver diskette,
run MAKEDISK.BAT. To install the driver, go to the Control Panel and select:

   Display/Settings/Change Display Type

Verify that the Adapter Type is one of the controllers listed in
the System Configuration section above.
If it is not, then Cancel and Exit.
If it is, then continue to select:

   Change/Have Disk

Type in the path to the download directory or select "Browse" to
specify the location of the files extracted in step 2 or the diskette.

5. Select OK to install the driver.

6. After the driver has been installed, you may delete the files
from the download directory if you wish.
