TITLE: HP Compaq Business Desktop System BIOS (786B1 BIOS)

VERSION: 2.40
DESCRIPTION:
This Softpaq contains utilities that can be used to restore or update the
system BIOS on HP Compaq Business Desktop d530 Ultra-slim Desktop model (786B1
BIOS).

Several methods for changing the BIOS version on your computer may be chosen.
Included in this Softpaq are the following methods: ability to create a ROMpaq
bootable BIOS upgrade\restore floppy, ability to upgrade the BIOS directly in
the Windows environment using HPQFlash and the ability to create a ROMpaq
bootable BIOS upgrade\restore CD. This Softpaq has the ability to be used with
SSM, HPCMS, or PXE management software for remote updating of the BIOS.

The BIOS Family and BIOS date can be determined by pressing F10 on the target
computer during system power on to run the Setup Utility, and then selecting
File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text file on a
diskette or on a USB flash media device by selecting File/Save to Diskette. In
order for a USB flash media device to be recognized by the system, the device
must be attached before the computer is turned on.

NOTE: This is a web release only.

FIXES:
 - Adds new VBIOS Version 3241 to resolve a DVI issue that can occur during startup
with dual monitors when using a DVI add-in card and the internal graphics controller.
 - Resolves potential system lockup when the F10 Setup option "Processor Cache"
   is set to Disable.
 - Resolves issue where F10 Setup Language Menu did not preserve the last used
language selection after performing a "Save Changes & Exit" command.
 - Updates memory support to allow for the proper operation of 1-GB PC3200
   (DDR400) memory modules.
 - Resolves issue with some PCI - Cardbus bridge cards not loading the "Generic
Cardbus Controller," which resulted in the driver for the controller having
an error condition in Windows XP.
 - Corrects an issue with USB 2.0 devices being visible in the OS when connected
to the front USB ports even though the front USB ports have been disabled or
   hidden in F10 Setup.
 - Corrects BIOS F10 Setup's Italian Storage Menu for Hard Drives, which was not
   displaying the complete text.
 - Updates PXE ROM to version 6.3.0. This ROM fixed a PXE boot failure that
occurred with some PXE servers where the "DHCP boot filename" option (OPTION
   67) was manually added. Also the base code was fixed so that the provided
length field file name strings are used to nullify the filename that is used
   for TFTP/MTFTP download.

ENHANCEMENTS:
 - Adds support for some Japanese specific keys on USB keyboards.
 - Adds support for USB CD-ROM boot. The CD-ROM drive must support this
functionality in order for this to work correctly.
 - Adds a new F10 Setup feature that allows the user the ability to adjust the minimum
fan speed to higher values. The fan controller still works normally and will
adjust the fans to higher speeds if required by temperature. The behavior of
the fan is identical to previous BIOS versions, unless the user changes this
   new F10 Setup feature.
 - Hyperthreading Enable/Disable in F10 BIOS Setup will remain in its current
state when a "Set Defaults & Exit" is executed from the F10 BIOS Setup\Main
menu. This setting is preserved because it is best not to disable HT once the
multiprocessor version of the OS is installed.
 - Adds code to ensure the SATA 1 device DMA capabilities reported to the
operating system reflect the currently selected data transfer mode when "SATA
Configuration" is set to "Replace Primary IDE Controller" in F10 Setup.
 - Installs the latest microcode updates for the F24, F27, and F29 processor
steppings of the Intel Pentium IV processor. The processor stepping can be
determined by accessing the System Information selection from the File menu of
   F10 BIOS Setup.
 - Adds support for soft power-down in Windows NT 4.0. This change works in
conjunction with the "Compaq Power Management Extensions for Windows NT 4.0"
software that is located at www.hp.com.
 - Adds F10 Setup menu for "BIOS Wakeup" option. This option allows the user to
set up a specific time and the days that the system will wake up from the soft
   off state (S5 sleep state).
 - Updates the F1 help for "BIOS Wake Up" option in F10 Setup to better reflect the
constraints of this feature. The system must be powered down from an ACPI
compliant OS in order for this option to work. Also, this option only works
when the system is powered off. If the system is in standby or hibernation it
will not wake with this feature.
 - Adds additional text to better describe consequences if security device reset,
   for the TPM, is selected.
 - Adds F10 Setup options for disabling/enabling each IDE (PATA) channel.
