DESCRIPTION: SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a protocol used for
network management. The UCD-SNMP project includes various SNMP tools:
an extensible agent, an SNMP library, tools for requesting or setting
information from SNMP agents, tools for generating and handling SNMP
traps, a version of the netstat command which uses SNMP, and a Tk/Perl
mib browser. This package contains the snmpd and snmptrapd daemons,
documentation, etc.
SUPPORTED FEATURES & DEVICES: The following Linux installations are supported
by this release:
1. Red Hat Linux 7.3 Professional Server default installation.
ENHANCEMENTS/FIXES:
1. Added Compaq Management Agents Extension (cmaX).
2. Added Compaq MIBs.
3. Turned on snmpd script at runlevels 2, 3, 4 and 5.
HOW TO USE:
1. Download following RPMs to a directory on your hard drive and change to
that directory.

ucd-snmp-devel-4.2.4-3cmaX.6.i386.rpm (optional)
ucd-snmp-4.2.4-3cmaX.6.src.rpm (optional)
2. Only "ucd-snmp" and "ucd-snmp-utils" RPMs are required by Compaq Mangement
Agents for Servers. Use following command to install/upgrade:
#rpm -Uvh ucd-snmp-4.2.4-3cmaX.6.i386.rpm \
ucd-snmp-utils-4.2.4-3cmaX.6.i386.rpm
3. After the RPM is installed, you may delete the previously downloaded files.

1. Introduction
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a protocol used for network
management. The UCD-SNMP project includes various SNMP tools: an extensible
agent, an SNMP library, tools for requesting or setting information from SNMP
agents, tools for generating and handling SNMP traps, a version of the netstat
command which uses SNMP, and a Tk/Perl mib browser.
In order to support Compaq Management Agents for Servers, Compaq repackaged the
"ucd-snmp" RPMs, which are based on Red Hat Linux 7.3 Professional distribution,
to include Compaq Management Agents Extension (cmaX) for supporting Compaq MIBs.
There are total four RPMs: ucd-snmp-4.2.4-3cmaX.6.i386.rpm,
ucd-snmp-utils-4.2.4-3cmaX.6.i386.rpm,
ucd-snmp-devel-4.2.4-3cmaX.6.i386.rpm and
ucd-snmp-4.2.4-3cmaX.6.src.rpm.

4.1 Installing from RPMs
a. Download following RPMs to a directory on your hard drive and
change to that directory.

4.2 Installing from Compaq Management CD version 5.50
a. Insert Compaq Management CD into CD-ROM drive and log in as "root" user.
b. Mount Compaq Management CD at directory /mnt/cdrom using following command:
#mount /dev/cdrom
c. Only "ucd-snmp" and "ucd-snmp-utils" RPMs are required by Compaq Mangement
Agents for Servers. Use following command to install/upgrade:
#rpm -Uvh /mnt/cdrom/agents/linux/eng/compaq/ucdsnmp/rh73/snmp.rpm \
/mnt/cdrom/agents/linux/eng/compaq/ucdsnmp/rh73/snmputil.rpm
d. Un-mount the Compaq Management CD:
#cd /
#umount /dev/cdrom
e. Remove the Compaq Management CD from CD-ROM drive.
