Release Note for firmware 5.1.21 on hardware mil-3400X Loading instructions ____________________ To load this revision over the network to your FastPort, simply print the download file to a parallel port, using any of the supported protocols. The FastPort will load the file, verify its checksum, and restart itself running the new revision. Please see "flash.txt" for more detailed information on performing the flash upgrade. Revision 5.1.21 incorporates the following changes with respect to 5.1.16 . Fix to allow device to come up in a Netware environment where all servers have "reply to nearest file server = off" . Some fixes for TokenRing DLC and Netbeui . Some fixes for token ring chip dropping off network . Fixed problem with LPD related to multiple clients requesting services, each using the same source lpd port (evident with SunOS clients) Revision 5.1.16 incorporates the following changes with respect to 5.1.11 . Token-Ring Fastport now supports WinNT DLC and WFWG Netbeui printing. . Fix which resolves problems closing lpd/tcp printing connections. . Fix for ethernet chip getting locked up on high traffic nets. Revision 5.1.16 current bug list . When fastport is used to send PCL data to some HP LaserJet printers, the engine on the printer allows us to send data, although it is not ready to receive, this causes the end of some complex pcl jobs to get lost. A Fix is currently being made to work around this problem. . MiLANs ACT Netware tool has some problems getting status back from the Mil-3500 printservers - the problem does not exist with the Ethernet version printservers, and a new version of ACT will resolve the problem. 'Advanced configure/print server config' screens exhibit this problem. . Some Ethertalk 'Setup Printer Defaults' values cause errors with the Mil-3500 printserver - values are "Tokenphase", "Disable Tokentalk", "Set Ring Speed", "Enable Source Routing". The workaround is to put a '%' in front of these values before downloading the file. Revision 5.1.11 incorporates the following changes with respect to 5.1.8 . Fixed problem with 4 Mbit TokenRing . Merge of 5.x functionality into the TokenRing hardware Revision 5.1.8 incorporates the following changes with respect to 5.1.3 . Fixed LPD problem in which the cr to cr/lf mapping was not being done correctly. . Fixed LPD problem that caused the FastPort to hang printing jobs with start or end strings. . Fixed problem with FP resetting after an hour if not configured. . Fixed problem with specifying wrongly the primary server. Revision 5.1.3 incorporates the following changes with respect to 5.1.2 Problems fixed: . Improved usability of flash monitor commands from telnet. . Fixed bootp problem that caused parallel port 1 to lock up permanently if a flash file name was included in the bootptab entry. . Fixed UDP problem that caused the FastPort to ARP for the MAC address of the IP broadcast address, effectively disabling periodic BOOTP checks for flash upgrade file. . Fixed TFTP client problem that caused abnormal termination of the first TFTP client job and disabled any subsequent jobs. . Fixed problem that caused FastPort to enter a state occasionally in which all transmitted packets contained CRC errors. Revision 5.1.2 incorporates the following changes with respect to revision 5.1.1: -------------- Problems fixed: . Fixed problem that caused manual reset to be required after flash load. . Fixed problem logging into NetWare servers when a preferred server was specified but no config file was present on that server. . Fixed problem reattaching to all NetWare print queues after server going down and returning. . Fixed problem setting serial and parallel port parameters from ACT. . Fixed problem that caused NetWare to function improperly in some circumstances when using frame types 802.2 and SNAP. Revision 5.1.1 incorporates the following changes with respect to revision 5.0.1: -------------- New Features: 1. HP DLC support from Windows NT Problems fixed: . Changed NetWare's ACT processing to respond to ACT with the same frame type as its request regardless of the frame type being used for server communication. . Made NetWare configuration file processing more robust with respect to incorrectly formatted files. . Made NetWare login rate independent of queue scan rate, thus speeding it up. . Made NetWare login more robust with respect to incorrectly specified primary server. . Corrected display of serial baud rate in console to correctly display 38400. . Simplified parallel port and TCP/IP options menus in the monitor. Revision 5.0.1 incorporates the following changes with respect to revision 4.8.3: -------------- New Features: . NetBIOS support. . Syslog support. . User defined LPD queues. . TFTP support for automatic network flash firmware upgrades. . Parallel port "standard" mode, which works with both Epson and HP class printers. . Console now reports number of bytes sent to serial ports. Problems fixed: . Added ROM checksum in 3400 flash algorithm (in addition to existing RAM cksum). . Fixed a problem that caused HP binary printing not to work in all circumstances from AppleTalk. . Fixed a problem that caused LPD from SVR4 to print jobs twice under printer fault conditions. . Fixed a problem that caused cancelled LPD jobs not to be removed from the FastPort's pending job queue, eventually causing it not to accept any new jobs. . Fixed a problem that caused some printers to double-space print jobs. . Added support for LPD queue "autosense_p2" allowing autosensing on parallel port 2 in the 3200. . Fixed a problem that caused the FastPort to process received BOOTP messages destined to other hosts. . Fixed problem in CR->CR/LF conversion in LPD PCL queues. . Fixed problem that allowed printing while in monitor mode. . Fixed problem that caused telnet password checking not to occur. . Changed default test page type to PostScript. . Fixed a problem that caused test pages not to be printed to Panasonic dot matrix printers. . Fixed problem that caused illegible printing of test page on ascii-only printers. . Fixed problem that caused printer status messages to repeat on the console during AppleTalk print jobs. . Changed ethernet LED to only blink on receipt of frames. Revision 4.8.3 incorporates the following changes with respect to revision 4.8.2: -------------- . Fixes a problem that caused the NetWare protocol to malfunction when using the 802.2 frame type. . Fixes a problem that caused ACT not to function properly with 3100cx+ and 3100CXu models. Revision 4.8.2 incorporates the following changes with respect to revision 4.8.1: -------------- . Fixes a problem that caused the FastPort to continuously send NetWare SAP packets after approximately fifteen minutes of normal operation. This problem occurred only if NetWare file servers were present on the network but no queues were defined for the FastPort to service. A workaround exists for this problem in 4.8.1: disable NetWare. This will not affect operation of the FastPort since if no queues are defined NetWare is not operable in any case. . Fixes a problem that caused PostScript test pages to be printed illegibly. . Fixes a problem that caused LPD banner and formfeed configuration values to be lost when the FastPort was reset. . Changes the NetWare login algorithm to significantly reduce login time. Instead of finding routes for all 24 servers before looking for the configuration file, the FastPort now gets the route for each one and looks for configuration file on that server. Therefore if the primary server is specified, it only gets the route for that server and logs right in. . Changes the default parity value to NONE (it was EVEN in 4.8.1). . Enhances the 's' command in the telnet console to display the number of bytes sent to each parallel printer port. . Fixes a problem that caused console mode to be incorrectly displayed after resetting the NVRAM to default values. . Adds 3100CX+ and 3100CXu support.
