September 3, 1998 - January 8, 1999...............Brooklyn, NYC --------------------------------------------- FILE TITLE: pond.bsp MAP TITLE: The Quad Pond (v.2) AUTHOR: Squonkamatic for the People!! EMAIL: snyland@earthlink.net URL: http://aquaquake.quakeintosh.com DESCRIPTION: 6th level in the 1st AquaQuake Mission Pack is set in a medium sized enclosed pond with "layered" false bottoms...plenty of biosuits to go around. Basically a deathmatch battlebasin, but expanded for SP use as well. Now enhanced with "planty" textures for a more "natualistic" feel. --------------------------------------------- SINGLE PLAYER: yes - your mission is to exterminate all of the indigenous life forms in the pond and exit the level; the exit is a small metal platform with a patch of sky on it......and one pissed off Vore. Hint - there is a Pentagram right under the SP start; grab it first or you haven't much of a chance. This map can be cleared in about 10 minutes. COOPERATIVE ENGAGEMENT: no - "I work alone" DEATHMATCH: yes - 4 starts added, and Quad damage for all!! This map produce a battle of attrition, where the aim to just stay alive long enough for your enemy's Quad or Pentogram to wear off and pound them before they get a new one. Pretty small, so I suggest 4 players as a maximum. Well suited for 1 on 1 gladitorial-style aquacombat. NEW TEXTURES: not really - "foliage" and mossy brick textures imported from the Quake PAKs with VISAGE NEW MUSIC: Quake has music? QUAKE C: what's that? KNOWN BUGS: A few too many monsters, might get laggy in SP mode when you get down below into the thick of them....I had to shrink and move the false-bottom platforms and a few items got stuck in them, but you can still pick them up. ----------------------------------------------- EDITOR USED: JQT for the Mac!! BASE: new level from scratch BUILD TIME: 8 hours (?) BRUSHES: 27 ENTITIES: 125 QBSP time: 84 seconds LIGHT: 6 seconds VIS: 106 seconds ----------------------------------------------- NOTES: Sixth level in the first AquaQuake mission pack exits into "marsh.bsp", and now features different textures in an effort to better simulate an "outdoor" setting. This level, based somewhat on a friend's farmyard pond we used to swim at back upstate, started out as just a little map for me to test out some new textures and look at them on some blocks.....but I couldn't figure out how to plug them into the JQT.wad at the time...... So I elaborated the "3D feel" of the pond by adding "false bottoms"/layers, plugged some monsters and DM starts in, and here you go. But I got distracted a few times during building and added about 3 Quads too many (hence the title) ...... so I stuck them on the DM start platforms so you'll at least have a chance to take a bite out of someone upon respawning. This is also my first level to feature what I consider to be the least desireable weapon in the Quake arsenal, the Thunderblot (sic), in its traditional submerged location. Not that it makes it any better, but it's there. Enjoy!! ADDENDUM 12/01: I have changed the original exit of this map to lead into my latest level, "marsh.bsp" - if both maps are not in your quake/id1/maps folder you will get an error bulletin upon exiting. ------------------------------------------------- THANX TO: Sir Giles Williams for JQT and MacQFE; the folks behind VISAGE; Ricardo Sheets, RalphieBoy 166, Aegidian, Borys the Polish Quake Freak, DJReather and Opulent for playtesting and feedback; and idSoftware for DOOM and Quake. Authors should think twice before using this map as a base for a new level - you could probably do better on your own.
