I've also set up a new 5thD Message Board where you can discuss most of the topics related to 5thD and TF II X-Project.
If you're interested in 'mapspecs' for TF II X-Project you can find it here.
Linux version of the mod will soon follow.
Many people complain that TF II X-Project can't be called as it's called now, because Valve owns all rights on 'Team Fortress' products. Ok, I have to make this point clear: I didn't call this mod 'Team Fortress II X-Project', but 'TF...'. TF could mean anything you like, for example 'Team Flags' or 'Team Frags'. II means Quake2... The thing that it was based on the idea of Team Fortress does not violate any copyrights; it was a non-commercial mod and non-patented idea. Any questions? So, please, before mailing me regarding the name of this mod read this page first. About the main topic: if you would like to start a TF II X-Project server we would appreciate that. Be sure to send us the address of your server, and we will create serverlist/filter tab for everyone. Thank you!
Addition:
Just wanted to comment on the legal issue: the thing that the mod was based on the idea of Team Fortress does not violate any copyrights; it was a non-commercial modification of Quake1. The only problem here could be the naming; but Vic explains this point. I bet a lot of players who did not switch to Q2 only because it "has no TF" will appreciate Vic's efforts... Come on, noone doubts that Valve is making something great, but for how much longer are they going to be doing it??? :)
You can discuss this topic in the special forum
Another great release for you! TF II X-Project is a port of Quake1 mod Team Fortress to Quake2. All your favorite classes are here: Scout, Sniper, Soldier, Heavy Weapons Guy, Demoman, Combat Medic, Pyro, Spy and Engineer. Almost all unique class features are ported as well as most of weapons. Download it from Mods section.
Server admins, if you run this mod please feel free to send here your server's address, the list of available servers would be published here soon.
Wow! This seems to be a great thing! Go and download out latest Quake2 utility mod - Clones, which can be of great help for Quake2 movie makers. This utility mod creates an entity which emulates (looks like) a client. You can control it (jump, follow, turn around) and even make him shoot! Go to 'Mods' section an take a look!
Since PiRaMidA is in US I decided to update the page and bring some life to 5thD.
There are a lot of inactive member of 5thD, and if you want to stay in team you must send me e-mail withing next week (7 days :)). This is the main goal of this short update.
You must also check RIP II Homepage and download the lastest version of RIP II released today - 3.4 (I hope it is the last one)
Btw, I removed news dated the last year. See ya,
You probably know what it is. Our own little server browser is back and it is much better than ever. With Internet servers importing, support for Quake 3 Arena and 6 other games, plus 13 games which were already supported, and... Complete list of new features takes two pages on aGSM.Net site, why don't you go take a look?
Or just jump to our download section if you take my word for it. Yes, it's the best server browser out there, yes it's freeware, yes it has more power than you'll ever need, yes I don't use anything but it to play online.
Introducing new mod by the author of Wazat mod, Danny Hale - this one, called Void, features best weapons of Wazat mod, lots of mines and bombs a-la HalfLife, and new cool bots which are capable of using all possible weapons. Be sure to check it out, the mod is for Quake1.
Iikka "Fingers" Keränen has updated his awesome Quake1 TC, AirQuake, to version 1.02. Full download is over 4 megs but it's well worth it. I won't write a lengthy review, I'm sure everyone in Quake community knows AirQuake :), so just go and download this truly amazing wargame based on Quake engine. There are couple of bugfixes and corrections; previous version was supposed to be the final one so I believe this one is just a next after the final :)
Weasy has another medium sized Quake2 map ready for you; go download LateNight now
In other news - you might have noticed that things are going pretty much slow over here; well, that's because I've been busy on a new, very cool project, which I would present in about a month. Also, we've been preparing aGSM for the next release which would happen along the Q3A release.
So, please be patient for a while, and download our utils/maps/mods, that should keep you rather happy for quite a while :)
Well, the news: famous RIP II mod has just been released at version 3.3. Download here. List of improvements:
Go download the patch from 3.2.
First, Happy New Year 1999 to you all! Let's hope it'll be as good as 1998 :)
To the Quake2 news - Weazy has just released another deathmatch map, this one for 2-4 players. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but it should be fun.
You can download RAM map at our maps section now. Stay tuned for more...
If you have some hot news which are somehow connected to the gaming development, mail our "update team":
PiRaMidA, Vic
Note that all the news about 5thD and 5thD member's projects has much more priority
We're open to your suggestions, so if you have some ideas or requests and you can't code it yourself drop me a line or two and one of us will consider doing it. We're unlikely to be making big things like map or model editors there are many highly professional developers who are dedicated to one big project, and they do their job good. Check out main Quake-related resource at ftp.cdrom.com for their works. We're also unlikely to start developing something that we don't think is usefull (that's right, no namescrollers :) ).
If you are a dedicated Quake/Quake2 developer/designer (yeah, no Duke3D gurus please :) ), or if you think you could be one, you can join our group. By working with us you would attract more interest to your projects, because their quality would be assured by a group of experienced developers, not yourself alone. Also you would be able to ask other group members for a tip when you're stuck, find a partner for a joint project, and more!
